Can’t you still make step goals on the iPhone???
Did you get a 4? I loved the way it felt in my hand. Even the band was better.
I did get the 4. I ordered a few extra bands from Amazon so I can change colors. The band is really easy to switch and won’t require 30 minutes of my husband’s time like the FitBit Versa band.
The band is so easy to change that it makes you wonder why other watches have historically been so difficult.
How do you do step goals on the iPhone- and do you have to have the phone with you when you are walking? The Apple Watch counts steps, so I’ll just have to watch it for myself. I think it might be good for me to unlock from the FitBit dictatorship (self-imposed).
DH ran with a friend who just bought the 4 airy cellular. Said his wife and step kids all did too and now he has like 10 “phone numbers” on his bill!
Congrats, MOfWC. I am sure you will get a lot of good mileage out of your watch.
I love my watch so much. I got cellular because it was all that was availalable in the version I wanted and my work pays the 10 bucks a month ( though I’d gladly do it of they didn’t).
I love the move reminders. I love not having to take my phone on long walks. For me the greatest feature is that it alerts me to e mails only from people who I choose. Because I work part time but always want to be very responsive to certain people (who are the ones who feed me work ) I no longer need to constantly look at my phone when I’m at home or running errands. And at work I don’t need to grab my phone every time I leave my desk.
I’m so glad to see this thread and read everyone’s positive Apple Watch reviews. I’ve been contemplating a Fitbit divorce and think I’m ready to make the switch. I wasn’t originally planning on getting cellular, but now really like the idea of being able to leave my phone home on walks and runs. Thanks for all the info!
I too appreciate all the responses and information. After 1 day, the only real drawback is battery life. I tend to have battery anxiety, and the watch seems to drain pretty fast. There are some things you can do to help the battery life (like not have the screen come on on wrist movement), but I think I am going to have a 2nd charger at my office just so I don’t freak out. I"m getting the hang of the icons and swiping. The other thing I’m going to miss about FitBit is the vibrate to notify (text, reminders etc). Apple just has the sound. However, it is easy to turn off the sound if you are in a meeting or something. There is a setting that lets you put your palm over the watch and it turns off the sound. I could see my driving everyone crazy.
Also need to figure out what is a reasonable calorie spend goal per day so I can close that circle. I made a big dent in it by running this morning, but not sure about the rest of the day.
Do you think the battery life is less because you have the cellular version??
Bummer on no vibrate option.
Did you not have a calorie goal on your FitBit? I think mine is set at about 2000-2200 calories burned. (I’m at 1947 burned right now and my FitBit ring is not quite closed.
I don’t think I ever set a calorie goal. This seems to move really slowly through the calories. Surely I’m burning calories just by breathing? I ran 4.3 miles and it only show 540 calories for the whole day so far.
Ok, so apparently it is “active calories” which means you have to be moving/active. It doesn’t seem to recognize casual walking around. That’s OK- but I need to figure out a reasonable number.
I saw the watches at Best Buy and they had a pretty comprehensive comparison chart. I really like the smaller size, but the sales person told me in order to have the “downloadable EKG going directly to the doctor” feature that I need to get the larger watch. (not that I even understand how the EKG function would work)
Is it true that they do not vibrate as an alert?
If you swipe up on the main screen it has the theater mode and silence (if you put it in theater mode it both silences and darkens the screen)
Doesn’t your watch Tap on your wrist? All notification on mine comes tapping when I am wearing, sound when not wearing it.
This justifies me upgrading to 4. ![]()

I’m not sure if it taps. I haven’t noticed that, but I get “dings” with messages and alerts.
Is “tap” the Apple version of vibrate? I thought I wanted an Apple Watch, but if it doesn’t vibrate, that just might be a deal breaker.
Although charging it every 18 hours might be the first deal beaker. I thought charging my TomTom every three days was annoying.
The watch doesn’t vibrate. It just taps. It is not noticeable to others but you know it. In settings, you have options for each app, phone or message, etc whether to have both sound and haptic, sound or haptic, or neither.
Charging doesn’t bother me. I don’t wear my watch when I go to bed. Every night, I store my watch on the charger.
