Just wondering, will applicants from different parts of UCB (engineering, L&S, etc) be compared with each other? Specifically, will applicants from the same HS who are applying to different parts of the school be compared with each other? For example, if one kid from a HS is applying to letters and science and another is applying to engineering, will they still get compared? I’m just wondering, because a bunch of Ivy hopefuls are applying to UCB, and I’m really afraid that we’ll get compared, with them appearing as much better candidates than me. However, they’re applying to engineering while I’m applying to L&S.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this was a dumb question =/

I’m pretty sure they don’t (from what I’ve seen with admissions from my HS).

I wouldn’t pick you if I were the admission officer with that level of self-esteem shown in what you just wrote and your username.

But to answer your question, it is certainly categorized into which type of applicant you are. In fact, for your prospective engineering friend, he’ll be further categorized into which branch of engineering he’s applying to. Since all L&S majors come in undeclared, you won’t have that sub-categorization, but I guess it all depends how many people applied for which college and which major.

If getting accepted to UCB is all that matters, I guess applying for L&S gives you the best likelihood of getting in…
