<p>On Duke’s supplement to the Common App, they state the following:</p>

<p>Applicant’s Waiver of Right of Access to Confidential Statement:<br>
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, students enrolled at Duke University have access to their educational records, including letters of recommendation on file. </p>

<li>I hereby freely and voluntarily waive my right of access to any information contained in the Common Application college counselor and teacher evaluation forms and agree that the statements will remain confidential.<br></li>

<p>OR</p>

<li>I prefer not to waive my right so that I may request to see the information on file after enrolling at Duke University.<br></li>

<p>does it matter which I choose?</p>

<p>Most people choose to waive their rights. I think that is “expected”. I’m not really sure though- I waived my rights. I have no interest or need in seeing my file.</p>
