Application due Dec 31, but office is closed?

For GVSU, I submitted online my transcript, application, payment, and ACT on Dec 17 (2 weeks before the deadline of December 31 to be considered for several thousand dollars worth of scholarships). I received confirmation that all were received except for the ACT score and I have no idea if they have it.

They said they need everything in by December 31. “the Admissions Office must receive your completed application and all supporting documents by December 31.” Their admissions office has been closed and won’t open until January. Did they really mean that everything has to be sent by December 31? They won’t be there to download my ACT score before then, so they don’t actually have my completed application.

Has anyone else had any experience with this? Does ACT just not send confirmation emails? I don’t know why they would list the 31st if they won’t be there to receive the supporting documents. Is there any way to check if they have everything? Thank you.

I have no clue what GVSU is, but if you’ve ordered a score report for them from ACT, it’ll be sent electronically. It may well be that they already have it, but your file isn’t up-to-date; at many colleges, it can take up to two weeks to update applicants’ files when a lot of material is coming in near the deadline.

After the first of the year, check your status again. If your ACT scores are still missing, contact the admissions office to discuss the problem with them.

This actually happened to my daughter a couple of years ago. Our state flagship university hadn’t matched her standardized test scores, sent 6 or 8 weeks before the deadline, with the rest of her file. She sent copies of her score reports, and copies of the email receipts from when she ordered the scores sent to the university, to the admissions office, and then she contacted somebody in the admissions office to explain her problem. The admissions officer there tracked down her scores and added them to her file. The whole correction took less than two days.

It sounds as if you’ve done your work correctly, but somebody else, somewhere, made an error. If you act promptly and make this known to GVSU, they’re not going to hold it against you.

Grand Valley is happy you applied. Your ACT scores arrived to them in .3 seconds – it’s all a data dump. You’re fine. Good luck.

Keep your timestamped receipt from the ACT in the event there are any disconnects at Grand Valley.

It’s past the deadline now but I’m sure GVSU received your ACT scores. I see you applied pretty late to Grand Valley State University, but with your GPA and ACT it wasn’t a big deal I’m sure. If you haven’t already I would recommend visiting Grand Valley and other schools that you are interested in to see if you fit in at the college.

For those that don’t know Grand Valley State University is in Michigan, on the west side of the state near Grand Rapids, Michigan.
