How do you find out when colleges offer fee waivers and how common are they? I know two people whose kids were accepted to Binghamton who only applied because they applied during some week that had fee waivers and it made me wonder for next year when my daughter is a senior. Thanks.
Sign up for the info lists of the colleges that interest you and they’ll let you know. Some will send you specific waivers - just to you - and a cast of thousands of others.
Some will publish the dates in advance.
And tons of schools have free apps as standard.
Good luck.
There are a few variations on fee waivers.
Financial need based is documented. If a student qualified for a fee waiver for the SAT or ACT, the school counselors or school staff can confirm the need for a fee waiver. Students can also request a need based fee waiver directly and most highly selective colleges apparently approve them, as it is just easier for them to navigate even when the high school does not sign off on the waiver form (discussed in another thread at some point).
There are dates state schools and some privates open fee waivers to all or to specific schools to encourage more applications. School Counselors will usually have those dates to share.
Some colleges will provide the codes directly to the students in mailings, emails, texts, etc… The reps may provide a code when visiting the school.
Our in-state high school alerted everyone to the SUNY free application period.
