Application for Sophmore year and late applications

My daughter’s friend said that she applied late to Andover (March or April), and she got in in June. She said they took late apps. How is this possible? I was also told that some schools have openings in Sept and will entertain applications.

We didn’t bank on this, and my daughter was planning to apply for sophmore year to a few schools. My question is when applying, do you send in 6th-8th grade school reports or just 7th & 8th. My daughter has always done well (A’s) in a really tough private day school. She got a 1780 (out of 2400) on her SAT’s when she took them in 8th grade and has been part of John Hopkins CTY since 6th grade. However, she had the worst math teacher in 8th grade for Algebra 1. She was in accelerated math, and the entire class got C’s and D’s. The woman can’t teach, and the school won’t get rid of her because she’s tenured. I am wondering how this will hurt her chances of getting into a BS. She would like to major in MT or Theater when she gets to college, however, we don’t want her to go to an arts high school in the event she changes her mind about what she’d like to major in.

You would have to explain the situation somehow, perhaps in interviews? It would be better if you as a parent told them instead of her because since it’s her grades, people will ignore any attempts to justify the low grades she received in math.

And from what I’m aware, you send from 6th grade if you’ve attended that same school (although some schools say the past two years including the current year, most schools want as many years as possible and that’s exactly what they request)

It’s definitely possible, I applied late to Andover and was admitted too, two years ago. A late application is essentially an application to the waitlist. In the event there is a space, they may offer a spot.
