Yes. Ditch the silly notion of ‘ivy league’ and ‘elite.’ Focus instead on quality education, good fit, affordable, majors and ECs that I want to do and grad school/job prospects afterwards.

If you love your safeties, and have reasonable matches, then you don’t have to be scared of rejection because you’ll end up somewhere that you know will work for you. As has been noted elsewhere, it’s what you bring to the school and not the other way around that really matters in the end.

Of course you’re scared, you should be because if you really are only applying to those schools, it’s an extremely risky and foolhardy strategy.

You should develop a realistic list of admissions and financial safety, match and reach schools.

The fear of rejection is one you need in order to create a sensible plan for where you apply. (btw, a 30 ACT isn’t a strong score to be applying to ivies with)

The only reason a student would apply to all the Ivies is because he or she is looking for a bumper sticker. Each Ivy is unique. If you like Columbia with the core, you will not like Brown with it’s open curriculum. If you like Harvard Square, my guess is that Ithaca NY is not your cup of tea.

Depending on where you are located and your high school community, a 30 is probably on the lower end of Ivy admissions - especially HYP.

Do more homework and it will seem less scary.

The posters above are all correct…create a list that guarantees some acceptances. Have you looked at the Naviance patterns for your high school?

OP has this from another post:

REACH

Columbia (1st choice)
University of Chicago
Brown

MATCH:

Macalester
Cornell
Boston University

(Hunter College CUNY)

SAFE:

Madison
Twin-Cities
University of Washington …

^Then the OP of:

Your success in life does not depend on where you go to college. At all.

Your success in life may depend on what you do when you get to college. A lot.

OP has Cornell as match with a 30 act. You have a lot to learn and consider in this process.

cornells average act is between 28-30.

*28-32 actually… still. i didnt think a 30 was so tragic.

Not according to Cs 2011/12 CDS:

And this data is for matriculating fr, not accepted students, which will will skew higher since many high scorers are likely to be accepted to other schools and will not attend C.

Hyperbole again. Maybe not tragic, but not high enough to make C a match school either.
