Application logistics

So I’m planning on applying to a handful of schools using the common app for the fall 2013 term. I’ll also be taking the spring and summer off to work/intern and focus on my applications.

The only problem with this is that I’ll be in a different city than my current college. How will this work in terms of letters of recommendation and dean certification? Do I print everything out now and leave my recommenders with the forms? One copy or one for every school?

Also how does one go about securing fee waivers? In high school one automatically qualified if one free or reduced lunch, but that isn’t really a thing I’ve seen on the collegiate level. Do I apply somewhere for them? Schools like NYU and Sarah Lawrence are asking for $70 and $60 respectively, not counting what it will cost to mail transcripts, etc.

Looking forward to your responses!

Won’t the deadlines for fall 2013 be early to mid spring (March/April)?

Ha, I hadn’t considered how soon the deadlines actually were. Was so caught up in taking the spring and summer off.

I’ll still be taking the spring and summer off to work and focus on my applications though. Also still wondering about how I should go about getting all those forms in.

Just bumping this. I guess I should call the schools and ask them directly whether I should make copies? Unless my advisor and professors should fill out their several copies of the common app forms.

Often it is possible for the recommenders to make photocopies of their letters, but include an original signature on each. If they follow that plan, ask them to sign in blue ink, not black so the signature is clearly original on each copy.
