So my counselor prefers to mail the school report and recs all together. Most likely, she’s going to do that before I submit my essays since I will be working on them until pretty late. However, on Stanford’s application guidelines, they say:

Your application is not active until you submit the First-Year or Transfer Application, Stanford Supplement, and application fee.

and

Once we have received the online submission of these two documents, we will send you instructions on how to check the status of your other application materials.

So it is okay to have other things sent to them (along with SAT scores) before I submit the commonapp and the supplement?

Yes, my S’s highschool did the same thing. Its ridiculous that the schools are still using snail mail but all universities understand that and will accept the mail. The problem is that snail mail can get lost so call the colleges and confirm that they have receieved everything.

Yes, you can send things, like SAT scores before the application. Once they receive something from a prospective student they create a file. Again, just call and confirm that all scores (ACT/SAT) are received. Even if it shows recd on their website, confirm everything, because test scores are usually grouped into one category so you never know which test they have recd- the ACT or SAT.
