My friend who supposedly has connections to Yale told me his application was flagged. He applied early. I was wondering if you know what “flagged” means and if this categorization would help him get in. Do flagged applications get much more consideration?

How would he know? Flagged could mean various things: his URM status, legacy, connections among other things. I’m sure he’s talking about positive flagging, though.

Flagged usually means that someone connected with the university has put in a good word for him, and that can help with admissions, although it is does not mean an automatic admission.

Who knows? Around this time, many kids are lying through their teeth. Even if he/she isn’t so what? It really doesn’t affect you since you seem not to have a similar connection at yale. Let it be.

The bulk of these people you’ll never see again until your 40th HS reunion. Let them squawk.
