For the Common App., my long essay is around 650 words. Does anyone think that is a little bit too long? I don’t know how much I can cut it down, but I can try if it’s too detailed. Does Northwestern care if it’s >500 words?

Also, in the additional information section on the Common App., I put an outline of all my activities and because of that format, it’s >1 page. (It’s actually more like 3 pages…ha.ha.ha.) Is that also too long? I hope the adcom doesn’t decide to kill me for sending too much stuff.

IMO…shoot for the 500 word limit on your long essay–650 may be construed as excessive…My D had to struggle to cut hers down, too…but was ultimately happier with the final product. She is at NU now.G’Luck-I have read your posts…I think you would be a great fit for NU!

the common app this year states only to have a min. of 250words so theoretically you could have an essay 1000+ words. From what I’ve ascertained, the rule of thumb is to be between 500-750 words so your essay is fine as it is.
