I applied ED to my first choice, Brown, and was deferred. So I had to begin the rest of my apps. While filling out the Pre-App for Middlebury I mistakenly selected the ED II option. While Middlebury is my second choice and I would be happy to go there I don’t want to be force to go there if I am accepted to Brown in April. Is there anyway to rectify this situation without looking like an idiot and ruining my chances of getting into Middlebury if I am not accepted into Brown?

1.) How long ago did this happen. If it was the last few days, then the admissions office will understand that it was simply a mistake.

2.)Internet or mail? Internet applications are more prone to mistakes such as that.

I would suggest writing a letter explaining what happened. They shouldn’t make a big deal out of it. While it MAY hurt your chances a little if it looks like you are backing out, it isn’t worth going to your second choice school for 4 years over a small mistake.

However, maybe you should consider ED II to Middlebury. While your chances at Brown may be small (check out the early rate for deferrements), you could have a greater chance of going to Middlebury, otherwise, you might not get into either.

But if you really would rather go to Brown, then your decision has already been decided… contact Middlebury.

Don’t write them a letter–CALL THEM.
