So I couldn’t get into the UW Eng departments…
I can’t decide if I should stay at UW and do the Applied Physics program, or go to UND for an engineering(MechE or ChemE). I am looking at it from a purely employment prospective.
UW is more prestigious, but I don’t know how employable is AP compared to an engineering degree from a less prestigious school.
Based upon your prior posts I am assuming you’re referring to University of Washington (as opposed to University of Wisconsin or University of Wyoming).
The question is not about general employability in a quantitative sense. The question is about what you want to do. An engineering degree is probably more employable than a major in English, but that doesn’t matter if the person in question hates math and loves to study literature. If you really want to be an engineer specifically, then you should go to a school where you can major in engineering and get an engineering degree. Majoring in applied physics is not going to help you get engineering jobs. But if you just want to generally work in a scientific area, and being an engineer is not necessarily that important to you, then it probably doesn’t matter - you can get a job with either major.
You can certainly get a job with a bachelor’s in applied physics, especially if you do the basic things that enhance your chances: do internships over the summer, participate in interesting things during the school year, etc. A college student in Seattle could do all sorts of interesting and resume-enhancing internships during the regular school year in the tech industry, or others. Not so much in Grand Forks.
Besides, I don’t think you should choose a college purely from an employment perspective anyway. Getting a job is simply not that concrete or formulaic.
