<p>Hi - - this is my first post. My son applied to U of I’s CS engineering program but rec’d a letter of interest from the head of the mechanical engineering program, presumably because he has a background in robotics. We are waiting to hear on his application but I wondered whether we should respond to the letter of interest (even tho this would be a second choice major for him)? My fear is that he is not competitive enough to get into the CS program and that if we respond to the letter of interest, if they accept him, they will slot him into the mechanical engineering program. Any thoughts? Thanks!</p>
