D is applyiing to several art schools with hopes of merit scholarship. One has deadline of 5 January and another is 15 January. All remaining schools are mid-February, which is well after our National Portfolio Day(s).

Is there any benefit to waiting until after NPD for her portfolio submission? Or is she better off sending the portfolios and applications ahead of NPD?

if you get your port accepted at NPD, you dont have to send it in, but if you have it ready, you might as well be in early, especially if any of the schools do rolling admission

If colleges like you they may offer a fee waiver to apply. Put your portfolio on a laptop and bring it with you. NPD is a good time to learn about scholarship opportunities. It will be easy for you to make new folders and put in only the pieces the college thought would be best to help you get scholarship money.

Spruce: Yes, on-site portfolio acceptance was something we wondered about. Although she’ll likely still have to submit a portfolio for scholarship consideration.

Findmepete: Interesting point about fee waivers, thanks.

emifinan: D would attend NPD post-application for schools that suggest interviews. We’re told that NPD review can serve as an interview for distant schools.

She’s likely to complete the applications with deadlines before NPD, but delay those with February deadlines until after the Florida NPDs.
