Choose an issue of importance to youthe issue could be personal, school related, local, political, or international in scopeand write an essay in which you explain the significance of that issue to yourself, your family, your community, or your generation.

The validity of peoples words seems to be a great matter of concern in todays society. When a man tells you he is going to give you five dollars, what is the first thing you do? Many people will analyze who is telling them this and whether or not this person has a tendency to stick to their word. If the answer is no, then most likely you will not believe them based on this prior evidence. If the answer is yes, then you believe that they will perform this action.
This has seemed to be a major issue throughout society but it is now more prominent than ever. People in todays society fear commitment. They are worried that another better opportunity will arise in the near future. But what is to say that when that opportunity arises, they will commit? Then there is the case where someone commits to something and then doesnt follow through on their commitment. This is probably the option that most people will choose seeing as people are very concerned with the opinions of others. They want to make themselves appear as though they take pride in their word; even though they know that the next enticing opportunity that they are presented with, they will abandon ship immediately.
I personally take pride in the commitments that I make and uphold these promises to the best of my ability. My word is the most important thing I can give someone. My word represents who I am. I believe myself to be a trustworthy and loyal person. When I commit to something I follow through until the end, even if I lose interest in it. Other people are depending on me and I know that I cannot let them down. The great Sophocles once said The honor of life lies not in words but in deeds. I whole-heartedly agree with this statement. Words do not mean anything unless you actually back those words with action. Many people in our generation do not believe anything unless they actually see it with their own two eyes. This is due to the doubt that has infected our heads. We doubt our neighbors, our friends, and even our family on occasion. It is healthy to have some doubt because when a person puts too much trust in others, they are often taken advantage of. I have been a victim of being too trustworthy. My father has a serious gambling addiction and he tells me every time after he relapses that he is going to quit. Previous evidence would tell me that he is not telling me the truth but I continue to trust him because I know that his words mean something. Too much doubt in the words of others can cause serious implications. Constant doubt of others can lead to constant isolation.
If we regularly doubt others, then we will not be able to work together. It is through teamwork that we can achieve the greatest success. This is on a local level, national level, and an international level. For example, the United States must uphold their agreements with other nations or serious problems could arise: such as war, broken trade agreements, and broken allegiances. We can use these allegiances to work with other nations to achieve greater things than we could by ourselves.
Our society today has a problem with trusting others and the commitments they make. There is good reason though. As individuals and groups we must take more pride in our words; so that when we give people our promises, they know we are going to give them our actions too.
