I got admitted to UC San Diego and UT Austin this year, and my classes start from August. I also got admitted to a few other schools which I applied to through the Common App.
However, it seems that I cannot attend this year because I had applied for a green card which might not come through in time. I cannot apply for F-1 visa because the two processes will clash, and neither can I study with a tourist visa.
Am I allowed to apply to the same school twice with the SAME application, with the same essays and stats? Or can I ask them if I can join next year instead of reapplying?
Also, if I have to reapply next year, how do I explain the gap year that Im taking?
You have to ask to defer your admission and explain the situation. I know you can’t apply to the same school in the same academic year. So just tell them you had trouble with your green card process and everything. It’ll defer your acceptance until the next year.
Usually UC will not defer your admission and you will have to reapply. Pretty sure 99But this is an unusual situation, it is possible they may let you begin in a later term, some UC do allow spring admissions. Is it just an open ended waiting game or will you have an idea when you will get through?
If you have to reapply, nothing will change except you will want to include how you spent your time in your gap year. Why would your stats be expected to be any different? I don’t know about reusing the same essays, hummm. How to explain the gap year? HUH? What about the truth?
Make sure you do not take any CC c;asses during your gap year or you will not be a freshman and you will have to wait to apply to UC until you are a Jr transfer.
It’s an open ended game, and there is a 70% chance that it will come through in time. In that case, I wont have to worry about applying next year. But there is still a chance my green card WONT come through in time.
Anyway, I will tell them the truth, but I meant, how do I strengthen my application as a student who has taken a gap year? Since Im taking a gap year, I should show them that I have done something productive in this free time instead of just sitting around waiting for my green card. Will getting a job help? Maybe some tutoring?
I won’t take classes so that I can still apply as a freshman.
Sounds stressful, hope you are being zen about it.
It would not be a good idea to sit around, because you will have to show what you did. Can you get a job without a green card? I though that is a no no. But a job would seem to be logical for most people. Tutoring is fine but I think you should think bigger, do a project, get involved in something in your community.
Thanks. I currently live in India. I can get a job here if I want.
My uncle owns a chain of restaurants, so how would an intern-ship on food management (or something along those lines) work?
