Apply undecided, switch to BME after getting in, good idea? bad idea?

<p>Ok, the consensus is, applying as a BME makes everything way harder…How way?
-Way way. </p>

<p>I intend to apply as a BME major, but since JHU’s BME is a tough one, I’m actually considering applying @JHU undecided then switch to BME once I got in.
I don’t know if it’s a good idea, but a post on cc from 2004 </p>

<p>says it’s virtually impossible to transfer to BME sophomore year.</p>

<p>ANybody who succeeded in doing what is described above?
Any idea or statistics on how hard it is to get into JHU BME?</p>

<p>At Hopkins, the BME is the only major to which you have to directly apply, and that is because it is <em>not</em> possible to switch into it after you get in. With any other major, it would be possible, because there is not a set number of people in any specified program, while in BME, there is a very specific number of kids who are accepted into the program from the get-go of the initial admissions process. Thus, if your heart is set on doing BME and only BME then you, my friend, need to specify it on your application from the start. Otherwise you’ll be stuck doing whatever other major in the general pool.</p>
