I thought I just saw on SDN’s forum that you need a LOR from a DO doctor in order to apply to a DO school. Is this true? My school requires an interview with a premed committee as well as a certain amount of LOR’S that they read, and those automatically go to the med schools we apply to, but these are letters from professors and volunteer advisors.

Huh. Interesting question. Tag.

Yes, there are DO schools for which a rec from a DO physician is mandatory.

Ironically, no allopathic school requires a rec from a physician and some explicitly say that they prefer professor/research supervisor recs to physician recs.

As for your question, does your premed committee not accept recs from physicians? If not, you’ll have to use a service like Interfolio to send the recs yourself.
