I’m really thinking that Bucknell might be my reach school and I would like to apply Early Decision. After taking a tour I realized that I would have to apply to one department. Is there a better chance of acceptance if I apply as an economics major or finance/accounting?

Also, is it hard to transfer from economics to finance/accounting while you are attending the school?

If Bucknell is a reach school then applying ED is a smart strategy since the acceptance rate for ED applicants is higher than for RD ( assuming here that you don’t need to compare FA offers from various schools).

That being said it is easier to get accepted as a freshman into the College of Arts and Sciences (Economics) than into the School of Management ( Finance/Accounting) . Business is one of the most competitive majors at Bucknell. Also if you’re admitted as an econ major, don’t assume that you’ll be able to transfer to business as a sophomore…the major is full by then and very hard to get into. Hope this info is helpful to you :-)

FYI - I believe that Bucknell Arts & Sciences limits the number of economics majors per class. I believe it that for econ you have to apply at the end of sophomore year to continue in the major. But you should definitely check with the University directly and found out how that works in practice (i.e. if they have to turn a lot of people away or not).
