Applying for different majors?

Can you apply for different majors at different schools, esp. if you are vacillating btw two? Like, for example, if school A has a better biology major and school B has a better biomedical engineering major, is it okay to choose different majors for the two schools? Or does your choice of major have to be the same for all schools you apply to?

Generally, yes.

In most cases, you apply to the college or university, or perhaps to a division of the university (such as the School of Nursing or the College of Engineering) instead of applying to the major.

Although many colleges will ask you what you think your major will likely be, in most cases, they’re not going to hold you to that answer anyway. You could tell Harvard that you want to study biology and Yale that you want to study Italian literature; it wouldn’t matter.

There are exceptions, however. For example, at the University of Maryland, there are some “limited enrollment programs” that cap the number of entering students who may be in the program. At Maryland, it is possible to be admitted to the University, but not to the limited enrollment program that you wanted. But even then, if you told Maryland you wanted to study journalism and Virginia Tech that you wanted to study electrical engineering, that would be OK. Unusual, but OK.
