Applying for FAFSA as independent student + parent signature?

I am applying for FAFSA as an independent student. I chose not to answer questions about my parents. Do I still need to include a parent signature with my application?

Not if you’re truly an independent student (over 24, military, married, or supporting a dependent).

Are you really independent for FAFSA purposes. This isn’t a choice YOU make. There are criteria and you must meet one of them. If you are sure you meet the criteria, then you do not need to provide the parent information.

I am over 24, so I meet the criteria.

Once you answer you are older than the date given, does it even present a parent signature page?

Well, I can see a section for a parent signature on the signature page, although the little boxes are shaded in grey…

I don’t think you can add the parent signature. I know you can add parent info, although it won’t be used at all … but I am pretty sure the parent can’t sign. That is because you are independent even if you don’t want to be (some students are actually better off if they are dependent, so they try to use parent info in hopes they can be considered dependent).

Yeah, gray shaded boxes means they are inactive and not required.
