I was just wondering when we can start applying for the 2017 Fall semester? I know the Common App goes live on july 30th or something like that, but when can we actually start submitting our applications for EDI. The deadline is Nov. 1, but what is the earliest we can actually submit?

As soon as the Common App is up and running, you can submit applications.

Is there any benefit to submitting the application super early?

No- you will still be compared with the rest of the pool. Do not wait until the last day though as there can be dowload “glitches”.

They won’t start evaluating your application until test scores, teacher recs., and school transcripts are in, so there really is no advantage to early submission. Admissions isn’t even fully staffed for the summer to read applications I would think. The only schools that it would matter to submit early is for schools that do rolling admissions and you are ahead of the game with everything else that is required to submit. Even then, you would have to check to see when admissions start looking at the applications.

And above post is correct. Don’t wait to the end. Northeast has a Halloween snowstorm this past year knocking out power everywhere. It made for some creative scrambling for my son to get ED in on time.
