Applying Ivies with Poor High School Performance

I am planning to transfer to Cornell, Upenn, U of Washington and Emory. They all require high school transcript. My college gpa is 3.8, but my high school grades were bad (mostly Cs) because I studied in a high school outside the US that students usually got Cs. Will it affects my chance?

It depends on what the college asks for for a transfer student. If they want to see your high school transcript, that will almost definitely hurt you. If they only want your college transcript, then it won’t. You have to check each school’s transfer admissions policy (I’ve linked them below).

-Cornell requires your high school transcript in addition to all colleges transcripts

http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/images/uploads/docs/Penn_Guide_for_Transfer_Applicants_2013.pdf
-Penn requires high school transcripts.

-U of Washington doesn’t appear to require HS transcripts.

-requires HS transcripts

For most of the colleges you want to transfer into, they will see your lower grades and it may play a role in your admissions decision. But, IMO, your strong college record could possibly offset that, since it will be evident that you can handle college-level work.

I agree with @yonceonhismouth. Your college record is what is most important.

I know college record is more important, especially I am junior transfer, but I afraid that I’ll have smaller chance (even no chance) for those highly selective colleges.

Do you mean University of Washington in Seattle or Washington University in St. Louis?

@TomSrOfBoston I mean University of Washington in Seattle.
