Applying to both Oxford & Cambridge for Grad Work?

I know you can only apply to Oxford or Cambridge if you’re applying for undergrad. Does that same hold true for MPhil/MSc applications?

I’m pretty sure you can apply to both.

What do you mean? You can apply for as many different schools as you like for as many different programs. Sometimes, individual programs have a restriction that you can’t apply to multiple programs at the same university or college, but otherwise, apply wherever you want!

For undergrad, you can only apply to one of them (the number of applications in total is limited to six and you have to decide for Ox OR Cam). For graduate study, you’re free to apply to both.

this is nice to know… but do they actually check this?

i.e. admission office exchange applicants name list every year

^^^^

The UK has a central application system that all universities participate in…so it’s impossible to apply to both.

Exactly. Called UCAS. Limits your choices but makes applying sooooo much easier. And less expensive. 10 Pounds for 1 uni, 15 if you apply to 2-6. (in 2005, might have changed slightly)

thanks all–this is helpful

You can apply to both. I have just applied to Oxford for PhD entry [2010], and may well apply to Cambridge too.

For graduate, you can apply as many departments in both universities as you want. Each uses a different application server, too. Oxford uses Embark, same as Harvard while Cambridge uses its own.
I applied for both last year (and got in both), this should be a good evidence.

hi ngcongtri so what was your GPA for the application? publications?
