applying to medical school for 2015

i am active duty military and i already have my degree. i know the application process doesnt start until may 1 but i wanted to know what i need to do until then?

You can start gathering your application materials.

–Find out the process for requesting official transcripts from all colleges/universities where you have earned college level credits. (You might ask how long it takes to process a request. AMCAS will not place your app in the verification queue until ALL transcripts have been received.)

–Contact all your letter of recommendation writers to remind them of due dates. Send them an updated CV or anything else they might want to refresh their memories about you. If necessary open an Interfolio account to receive LORs.

–Organize a list for yourself of all your ECs. You’ll need start and stop dates, approx # hours involved, and contact info for an activity supervisor (name, title, email, phone) for each EC you list. Write a short description for each EC. (AMCAS has a character limit of ~750 for descriptions, including spaces.)

–Get unofficial copies of your transcript for your own use. (You’ll need them to fill out your AMCAS application.)

–Start writing your personal statement. Show your PS to individuals whose judgment you trust for feedback. Revise. Repeat. It will probably take multiple iteration before you arrive at a PS which you’re happy with and which fits inside the AMCAS character limit.

–If you haven’t yet taken the MCAT, schedule a test date ASAP.
