I’m going to be a Junior is September 2007. I’m starting to apply to summer programs in a few months, and I just wanted to know if I have a good list. How competitive are these programs? My top two choices are asterisked.

Carnegie Mellon Music *
NYU Tisch-CAP 21 *
Harvard-4 weeks
Columbia-4 weeks
Georgetown-6 weeks
University of Pennsylvania-6 weeks (I’ll probably take courses)

TASP, especially since you seem interested in the arts. I think at least two of this year’s TASPs are art related.

TASP is not an option – the OP is a sophomore this year, so TASP is something they could do the following summer.

What are your interests as far as summer programs? What is your budget (they can get expensive)? Any limits on location or time?

My interest…I want to do something in singing. If I don’t get into that, I want to take college courses. I don’t want to a minicourse or Explo type program. I want credit. No limit on money, 6 week time limit.

have you considered Interlochen? http://www.interlochen.org/camp/

I don’t know much about opportunities for singing – but if you enjoy musical theatre, i know that there are a number of parents and students that have discussed opportunities before. You might get good responses if you ask for help at the Musicall Theatre sub-forum http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=501

This thread actually wasn’t to look for programs in the first place though. I just wanted information on the programs I’m applying to from people who’ve been there, and also information on how competitive the respective programs are.

omg go to columbia. It was SO much fun. I had a friend who took the art history & film class and she loved it. I took advanced creative writing and it’s the best class I’ve ever taken. I went the summer after sophomore year. I’m a junior now.

That’s the summer I’ll be going! I’m definitely looking at Columbia, but I’ll see where I get in.
