would this help my chances? Penn State is my #1 and I’m borderline between University Park and a branch campus as far as my grades are. I am 100% more then willing to spend as much time as possible in State College.
@futureIvyMan201 When you complete the Penn State University Park application it asks you if you’d be want to be considered for the summer session and if you want to be considered for any specific commonwealth campuses. My son was borderline as well and he did check of Yes to summer and No to other campuses. He was accepted to summer and plans to begin next (!!) month. Checking off summer does not mean you must start then…but it is a back up if you don’t get into fall. If you are accepted into fall and still want to start in the summer they will accommodate you. I’m reasonably certain that if my son hadn’t checked Yes to summer consideration then he would not have been accepted by Penn State. Good luck!
Also, just to add to Bruce’s comments, if you DO put a back up, that doesn’t mean that you are more likely to get a branch campus either. I’ve seen people afraid to put a branch as a back up thinking that they would automatically send them there, but that’s not how it works. As Bruce said, when you apply, the consider you in the order of your preferences. So if you apply for fall, they consider you for fall. If you can’t get in for fall, and you’ve checked summer, they will evaluate you for summer. If you meet those entry requirements then you are in for summer. If not, they will move down the line. If you put a branch, then you would likely get the branch campus. If you don’t put a branch and cannot be accepted for either fall or summer, they may come back and tell you that you would get in if you considered a branch. A little tip - apply DUS with summer as an option. It gives you the best chance of entry. That’s what both Bruce’s son, and my daughter did…and they are both starting in June! My daughter put Altoona as her back up campus, but she got in for summer so it didn’t affect her.
alright thanks for the help. and WE ARE…
