Applying to two different colleges within UT, what should I focus my essay on?

I’d like to double major in both BHP and RTF. My first major choice is the Business Honors Program at McCombs. Second is RTF at the Moody College of Communication. I know when you specify what major you want in applytexas you have to check “undecided business” for you first choice to be considered for BHP. But for the applytexas C essay, should I tailor it solely towards business? If so, would that not hurt my chances of getting into RTF?

Yow will either get accepted into McCombs or not. UT will not even consider your second choice major unless you do not get your first choice major.

Double majoring is possible, but not even declared until you have 30 hours at UT. (You can check this number somewhere on their site.)

I have seen one student get accepted into both his first and second choice majors - because he officially switched the order of preferred majors after being accepted into his first (not to game the system, but because he was having a hard time deciding). Ultimately he had to choose one or the other.

I believe the only exception to this single major as an incoming freshman approach is if you were applying to Plan II.

What’s the topic? I think you should write something that best reveals who you are. You are a kid who is interested in business but also has a strong media slant.

I had a kid get very far in the BHP process who didn’t write a terribly business focused essay. His essay was more about who he was and showed what he would add to the community. He had a ball with it and I think it showed.

What are you going to do with these 2 degrees?
And UT will not allow you to double major unless you have a lot of AP credits and can easily graduate with double major within 4 years.

You can write essay about producing, it is the most business related topic in RTF. Producers deal with money, all others deal with art.
