Applying to U of I structural Engineering program

Hey I was just wondering what it would take to get into the structural engineering M.S. program after a 4 year B.S. in ConE from Iowa State University. Any input would be appreciated

Any particular reason you’re doing ConE for undergrad instead of CivE?

You mean U of Iowa or U of Illinois?

Have you already graduated from undergrad in Con E?

Either way, what you could do is take some relevant Civ E classes; that would help.

Since he lives in Illinois, I would assume he means Illinois.

I do mean Illinois, and the only reason im doing ConE is because I am only a freshman so I havent truely commited to going to grad school. I was just interested to see if it would be the same process with a ConE degree rather than a CivE Degree, also I am pretty sure ISU is the number 1 rated ConE school in the nation if that makes a difference.

It makes a big difference if you do Con E undergrad or Civ E. If structural is what you want to do Civ E is the way to go!
Structural is arguably the hardest profession within Civ E to get into…whereas Con E curriculum is too soft, honestly

With regards to the rankings, there are none for Con E. A lot of schools don’t have Con E.

Note, there are many other branches within Civ E (transportation, soils, environmental, etc…) in case you change your mind about structural

It also doesn’t eliminate the possibility of working in construction.
