applying undecided as major

is ti bad to apply undecided to school like HYPS?

I don’t think it matters that much. It can help if it is an major they are trying to build up but then you need to stick with it. If you don’t know, you don’t know. Most schools understand that it is unlikely people will absolutely know what they want to do when they hit the front door.

“It can help if it is an major they are trying to build up” False.

Again and again, this subject comes up. It matters 0% at the four schools you’ve mentioned.

So, here specifically is my question:

I sort of “enjoy” philosophy, but I can’t really imagine myself actually becoming an actual philosopher as an occupation. However, for college purposes, would it look better to put that down rather than undecided?

Anecdotally, a Yale adcom said this in an info session: your listing of a major is ONLY a point of curiosity – it has no bearing. Philo or Undecided – neither looks better than the other as both are practically irrelevant for HYPS purposes.

Since you ARE undecided, list so.

Say for a school such as berkeley, from the perspective of someone out-of-state, would it be better to apply undecided rather than engineering or business?
