I’ll keep this short. I’m a current Biology/Biochemistry double major with a 3.95 GPA. I already have a degree from the University of Chicago in English with a 3.3 GPA. I haven’t taken the MCAT yet, but from practice tests expect a good score. ECs are currently decent, not outstanding, and nonexistent before I started my current degree. I had naively assumed that med schools would ignore my other degree, given that it’s in literature, but I now know this isn’t true. Is med school hopeless, or can a killer MCAT and perhaps more ECs make me competitive?

Med school is not hopeless. Med schools will consider your cumulative GPA using all degrees, but you sGPA will only encompass your BCMP grades. I assume your BCMP GPA is good. That will help mitigate your cGPA.

Score well on the MCAT, beef up your ECs, apply widely. Good luck!
