2004 was when CC made a change, so even those here longer, show 2004 as their joined date. I don’t even remember why/how that happened, just remembering it did.
@snowball- I remember that earlier iteration of cc had our emails available. Guess they went to slightly great er privacy. There were other changes which, like now, we resisted. Some things don’t change
I was an idiot for not knowing about the parent forums until a few months ago. I thought people ONLY talked about colleges on CC. Last year I mostly frequent UMich, UCLA and UCB forums for information on release dates.
Anyways, I appreciate this place and many posters here so much. I am curious, have any of you “old timers” ever meet up IRL?
I have met some wonderful VA/DC CC friends but none who live in HI.
I’ve met a couple of posters individually and also organized a get together of local posters the year after we moved here. A few people in different areas were doing that at the time.
I’ve met a lot of CC folks and even vacationed with a group!
In the DC metro area we did a lunch a couple of years ago, but I only stayed in contact with one of the people from that lunch. I met Marilyn when we went to San Diego. That’s it for me.
@MomofWildChild , wow, you even vacationed with a group! Do you still keep in touch?
Have become good friends (virtual friend is a real thing I guess - oyymoron comes to life) with a few and have received great advice from several over the past three yrs. Hopefully I’ve provided as much as I’ve received. This is a great platform.
I’ve also vacationed with a CC group…and yes, we still keep in touch.
I’ve also hosted a number of CC friends at my house for various reasons, and met others IRL elsewhere.
One cc friend and I get together every couple of months for lunch…I hope we can do that again…soon enough.
Have hosted CC’ers and cc kids in my home. Have attended (actually helped organize, back in the day) a few cc meetups. Have met cc’ers in their cities when I happened to be in town, and vice versa. Still keep in touch with many of the cc’ers I’ve met IRL and virtually.
Yes, still keep in touch. Some have fallen away over the years, but many good friendships remain. There are some I mainly connect with through facebook due to distance, and others I have been able to see more regularly. I had a few CC friends come to town a couple of years ago to run a race and they stayed at my house. My co-workers couldn’t believe that people I had never met were staying at my house and said I was going to be murdered!
@snowball : That makes me OLDER!
Another poster who appreciates this forum so much even though I don’t post very often. What a great source of information, caring and support. I have learned so much in so many ways!
I went to a NYC meetup for lunch about ten, maybe fifteen? years ago. Don’t think any of them are still here. I remember one was Tess, can’t remember the other names. and I’m FB friends with a couple of others.
Cheers to all of you! I enjoy reading about your day, your troubles and your triumphs!
I still enjoy the Cafe daily, even though my original kid graduated college in 2014.
A group of friends from that time have kept together online and at meetups through the years. I’ve been on vacation twice in the past three years with a subset of our larger group. We have so much fun and I consider them real friends, as much as my geographically closer friends.
I’m jealous of your meet ups.
A few years ago some of us in SE FL met for lunch. It was so enjoyable. Most recently, some CCers listened to me share my son’s job search and he ended up where he/she also had family members. Invaluable anecdotes
I have met a couple CC’ers IRL, and I am FB friends with a couple. I once talked on the phone to one of our legendary post-ers from the 00’s. I would love to meet up if anyone ever comes to the Detroit area. I also spend time in the summer in SW Michigan, near South Bend (IN), if anyone lives out that way.
My profile says I joined in 2005, but that was a glitch. I was here long before that. Remember Curmudgeon, LatetoSchool, so many great posters.
