Appropriate to put class rank percentage in applications?

For applications where it asks you to list your GPA, can you put your class rank in parenthesis.
I.E 3.5 (Top 10%)

Since some schools have grade deflation/inflation, I don’t see how they can compare GPAs. Someone can go to a school where a 3.9 is the top 10% of their class while somewhere can go somewhere where a 3.9 is the top 1% of their class due to grade deflation/inflation.

I wouldn’t bother. Class rank is highly deprecated and many (if not most) colleges and universities no longer even calculate or publish such statistics.

To put a finer point on it: Your 3.5 vs. someone else’s 3.7 isn’t going to make or break an application. Admissions decisions are not generally made on two-tenths of a grade point. Graduate admissions are holistic and qualitative, and factors such as the strength of your LoRs and the nexus between your SOP and the program are going to be much more important than where your GPA fits in with your peers.
