I will be purchasing an IPAD2 for my D14. I have gone to the app store & there seems to be so many apps for psat/ sat prep + educational resources for those in high school and college… My question is… how does one decide which apps to download? please list those that you find most beneficial…and tell us why! Thank you!

bump bump bump

Free advice: Don’t get the iPad … you’ll be drifting away from your aim (SAT prep) and play the game with string and pigs and birds. ;)

Agree with thelazyprat

Osmos HD. Incredible.

@thelazyprat…

If DD14 were a different type of student, I would totally agree… if she were a goof off, and she has had plenty of time to do that on the home pc and her many lap tops over the years! But she hasn’t!! She has always had a mature side that allows her to go above and beyond what is asked of her in school and at home… She has had technology in her life for 15 years now and I don’t think an IPAD2 will change her drive at all! I wish she were as dilligent with her bedroom! :)

What I found to be a distraction was Facebook(which I let her get last summer) and I had her get rid of that as soon as I saw the trouble that it brings(the 1st day of school)! She is still a straight A student and knows how to budget her time/prioritize…

She will be using the Blue Book and other SAT prep items as well as the IPAD2… I think it will make it a fun way to study without really feeling like she is studying! She will have enough of that with the other study aids that I am constantly piling up on her desk/bookshelves…

IPAD2 suggestions anyone?
There are so many cool apps… for biology, math… I am sure the key is to find the apps that are of high quality.

She seems like an exception
BTW, you can try out the Khan Academy app for iOS.

I wish her older brother were the same…
Now he, would not be able to handle an IPAD… his laptop is for music downloads, FB and OVOO/SKYPE… sigh… its so amazing how kids from the same gene pool can be so vastly different!

same gene pool… lol!

I found an interesting article on NYT.com about this very thing… I only skimmed it, but it gives some interesting SAT prep apps/websites.

And my dd14 has been using KHAN ACADEMY for a few months now… she absolutely LOVES it!!

does your daughter do anything besides studying?

Stick with the old-fashioned prep books.

:D

My God yes!! She has a very active, social life! Her calender is far more replete than mine!

But she has always had this amazing thing about her… even from very early on in her schooling, she would get an assignment, and plan, research, complete it weeks in advance! This began with those wonderful 1st grade dioramas and book reports…

Totally opposite of her older brother… I always joke that I must have brought the wrong baby home! She weaned herself from the breast @ 2yo, potty trained herself 2 days later, taught herself how to tie her shoe/ride a 2 wheeler at the age of 4, taught herself how to swim and on and on… as I said before… I am not sure if she is even mine! LOLOL

She has always known how to juggle work/play… and has a need to do well! I think it truly bothers her if she doesnt… so she is always “self correcting”. We kept her in nursery school for an extra year and has always been on the older side in each class… Many people think that “red shirting” can be detrimental to the child… but it has worked wonders for her!
