Did you guys get A for question 1?

@skylimits Yes, do you remember the names of all the passages? I really can’t remember much about the last two…

I remember one passage was about Daguerre, one about Merian the painter/evolution, and one was about the uses of cork. I don’t know the names of the specific passages.

METAMORPHOSIS not evolution haha

Awesome, that really helped me remember. haha… do you remember any questions from the Merian and Metamorphosis passages?

I mean Merian and Daguerre passages.

Merian: one question was about the general idea of the passage. One was about the author’s tone/attitude towards merian. One was about the meaning of the “pivotal moment”. One was about why the author referenced Pliny. One was about how caterpillars were grouped with other animals in Pliny’s time. One was about whether the author was referencing Merian’s journal or something else. I also think one was about a German scientist who made some grand discovery about metamorphosis but thought his work was unimportant so his colleagues were unaware of his findings.

Do you recall any of the answers as well? LOL

Daguerre: one was about sontag’s POV. one was about what the viewers of photographers could be equatable to. One asked why the author related the plot of Hawthorne’s novel. One was a quote from a journalist and asked whether or not Daguerre would have agreed. One was something about a mirror (I don’t really remember that one.) One asked why the person quoted in the passage wanted students to blank out the eyes of a photo of their parents. I think one asked about the general jist of the passage as well.

If you give me a specific question I could probably give you an answer. I actually felt confident on the reading :D

Just go down the row and answer all the questions you just listed.
I didn’t even get a chance to analyze the last passage like I should have. =( Wasn’t there 4 passages or 5? I have been delusional about reading and science since yesterday. O.O

4 passages.
Merian: passage was about a woman whose findings were elaborated on by several other scientists. Attitude was admiring. Pivotal moment = transformation. Pliny’s ideas were outdated but still used in merian’s time. Caterpillars were grouped with worms and serpents. Merian’s journal was referenced. German scientist’s friends were unaware of his findings.

Daguerre: Sontag thought photography desensitized people. Viewers of photography = people who listen to cds instead of going to live concerts. Plot of hawthorne’s novel was related because it showed how photography was central to it (or something like that.) Daguerre would have agreed with the journalist because he felt photography gave the power of reproduction to nature. Don’t remember the mirror question. General jist was about how photography is powerful and controversial.

I’m sorry, what exactly was the question specifically about Hawthorn and The Seven Gables quesion?

I think there were two actually. One asked why the author chose to relate the plot of the story. The second asked why it would be considered modern for its time.

would the second be because he represented an old theme with a new idea?

No, it was because he made a new technology center to the plot.

Since there were 4 passages, that would make it ten questions per passage?

What about the Big Hank and Cork passages?

@Quickerthanswift i think the hank one was that it was his dad because i remember reading that “I am the son of hank the tank.” or something like that

What about #30, asking about why kids put holes in their eyes in the photo? Was it the last answer, something about the magic of photography?
