We are in the TOTAL eclipse path. I’m marking off my calendar so I can be home for it that afternoon. Many schools are canceling for the day because totality will be right around dismissal time.
We went down to South Carolina to watch the last one. We have our eclipse glasses ready for this one. Trying to figure out where we are going to watch. Might head down to Texas - totality is over 3 minutes there and might even be close to 4 in some places. Worst case scenario - we drive up on the day of the eclipse to Vermont.
We’re heading to a friend’s farm, planning a picnic. It is about 2 hours away. Friends tried to drive to a different spot in 2017, and got stuck in terrible traffic from all those trying to do the same. They never made it. We’re hoping by leaving early that morning, the conditions will not be as bad. All inns are booked.
I will get nearly four minutes in my driveway lol.
We are a small city (more like a big town) and the media is talking about overwhelming crowds, etc. I guess I will believe it when I see it, but we are also just off I-75 so that might be a factor.
We had originally thought we might go to Vermont as our cabin is in the path, but then friends of ours rented a house in Texas and invited us to come along. They are lots of fun, so even if the weather doesn’t behave (and we have better chances in Texas than Vermont) we’ll have a good time.
My brother in law is one of the owners of Egyptian Hills Resort on Lake of Egypt in Illinois. It is right on the path. 3 minutes 58 seconds according to the info in the original post. My wife and her sisters are heading back there to visit for the eclipse.
We’re not in or near the path, but I’m tempted to go on this cruise. If I was still willing to go on a cruise ship. And if I wanted to go on Holland America ever again.
We missed the total eclipse in 2017, so we wanted to be sure to try to see this one! I really envy those of you who live in the path of totality. Unfortunately, being in California, we have to travel some distance. With that in mind, I planned our trip almost a year ago to go to Texas to see it and am keeping my fingers crossed for good weather. We’re renting an Airbnb outside of Austin and will be spending about 5 days in the area. We’ve never been to that part of Texas before and are looking forward to it!
Me too, it’s a strange time to live in south Texas, which is the path of totality junction point of both eclipses. I bought eclipse glasses in advance AFTER the last eclipse, because I know they’d be sold out everywhere in April.
Fun! My daughter goes to Rice and they cancelled classes that day. Usually this weekend is a 4 day weekend and this year they made it a 3 day and are giving them “Solar Ecplise Day” off instead.
I bought a couple of glasses online for the partial eclipse this year after thorough online research. Too bad I have no other opportunity to use them! Unless I end up on that 22 day cruise after all…but it overlaps Passover.
I just bought glasses online from this company (on the American Astromical Society recommended list). Oddly it currently costs the same to get 2, 5 or 10. I got 10 and will send extras to my daughter for her to share with friends.
