Did you fall prey to any April Fool’s jokes today? Play any on your own?
A rude one locally was someone posted on a group page of people who have been trying for YEARS to get a Trader Joes in our town that said TJ’s was coming. That was not OK!
I temporarily fell for one that our neighborhood coffee shop posted. They are quite trendy and creative with their lattes, etc. They posted a “limited edition” photo of a Hidden Valley Latte - ranch crème drizzle with a herb and pepper dusting. Took me a few seconds for it to register!
Not today, but 34 years ago my H called our best friends to say I had given birth. They sent flowers but got the name of the hospital wrong so assumed it was an elaborate April Fool’s joke when the florist told them there was no patient by that name at the hospital! Um, nope - just 7 pounds of impatient baby boy. Now DIL is due on the 23d with our second grandchild so who knows?
I’ve warned my family about what day it is so they can be cautious about believing things - as am I, but April Fools is the one “holiday” I would eliminate if I had a choice so we don’t do anything among ourselves and I try to pretty much avoid everyone else.
April 1st is my BFF’s (from HS) birthday. We both make a point of not ever mentioning April Fool’s. I’ve never participated. I’m with @Creekland – it’s the dumbest “holiday.” Let’s get rid of it.
My D (a proud Lafayette grad) sent this from the school’s twitter feed I think. Anyone familiar with the Laf/Lehigh rivalry will (hopefully) appreciate it.
D19 texted this morning and said she had been at a party that got busted at her LAC, and that she will likely be sent home. She has received a couple of drinking tickets as a frosh, so this news wasn’t shocking.
I texted for details, but no answer for a couple of hours. Meanwhile, I was feverishly strategizing defense arguments for her, when I could get there to move her out (I am out of the country until tomorrow), whether I could find a place for her to rent near school, etc. etc.
Well, you guessed it… a few hours later she texted ‘sorry, I had class’ and “April Fool’s”. Got both my husband and I.
I informed my daughter that it would be mid 20s to low 30’s tonight, so she should dress warmly for work tomorrow (true so far) – then added that we were getting a Nor’easter on Sunday. She believed it, until I added…“Nor’Easter Sunday!”
D22 (current HS junior) is very particular about organizing her room. Has to be “just so”. When she went in to the shower today, I switched her dresser drawers (just pulled one out and put it in a different spot since they are all the same size). She got out of the shower and went for her underwear and the drawer had socks. Sock drawer had t-shirts, etc. She laughed really hard.
S21 just finished a California tour of some colleges with friends. I emailed and said I had a campsite ready for him to quarantine at when he got back this evening.
I made my D a frosted brownie treat with sprinkles… except the “brownie” was a sponge covered with frosting. (After a good laugh I brought out real brownies.)
I saw one prank posted by a Facebook friend who had a business Zoom meeting. She made the background a photo of herself at her work station. So when the meeting started, everyone assumed she was having technical issues since the video was “frozen.” Then she popped into view and surprised everyone.
I belong to a Facebook group started 10 years ago when the tsunami closed a big island resort. After years of legal wrangling it is finally being rebuilt and is eagerly awaited by former guests. The moderator of the group wrote a post saying that the new owners were going to turn day to day operations over to the Four Seasons, which has a vibe very antithetical to the friendly, we’re all family, old Hawaii vibe at the Kona Village. I was sad for most of the morning until I checked back and realized the date!
