Apparently, the thing where you name 2 colleges comes out in April, and I haven’t gotten anything. I scored in the 230’s so I know that I should at least be a semifinalist, much less commended, so should I have heard anything by now? Do they mail it to your house? Your school? Has anyone been notified yet?

I’m a little paranoid that my parents unwittingly threw the letter with it away lol

Got a commended (lol, PSAT was 200 points less than my SAT) letter - my dad just showed me and it had the “name 2 colleges” thing… it’s not even a free SAT score report so I feel it’s pretty useless though.

My GC and I both got it today. Idk how I’m going to pick JUST TWO colleges…

EDIT: Does anybody know how you tell other colleges you are a NMSF? I mean when you are a fall senior, when you actually know. Can you just write “I am an NMSF” on your app?

EDIT #2: The letter was dated April 10, 2012

@risubu, you just put it in the “awards” section of the common app. If you are admitted and need to show proof for a scholarship, they ask for a copy of the acceptance letter when you become a semifinalist.

The purpose of choosing 2 colleges is just to show early interest–no big deal.

There are several threads on this with more info under the “National Merit Scholarship” section

I received the letter but it’s unlikely that I’ll make it to the next stage based on my state’s PSAT cutoff. Given that I probably won’t advance further does this letter have any worth? Would it be beneficial to show that I was commended on an application?
