APUSH 2010 post exam thoughts

To those of you who took the 2010 APUSH exam this morning, what'd you think of it? Please don't give specifics because that's against the College Board rules, but we can discuss how we felt. Personally, I loved number 3 from the FRQ and felt pretty good about 4 and 5, but I ended up writing about 4 because I felt I had just a bit more information about that one.

The DBQ is going to kill my score though. I was caught WAY off guard on that one. What'd you guys think of the DBQ? I didn't study that specific subject that far back so I probably didn't do so great, especially seeing as how I accidentally confused it with with another period. Hopefully the FRQ and multiple choice still keep me at a 5 though.

I'm hoping for the opposite... that my DBQ makes up in part for my 3 pages of BS for #5 and my (surely horrible) MC score...

I've always loved the part of history that the DBQ tested, so it was all good :) I loved #3 as well, I BEASTED on that. Except I ran out of time and my conclusion kind of sucks. But other than that...

I think the main problem for me was the time restraints. Had I been given more time, I could have done a lot better...

Yeah I know what you mean about number 3. As soon as I read that I started listing out things. I ended up with a list of like 20 things. Hopefully we both get 9's on that FRQ. Yeah I kind of felt crunched for time on the multiple choice. I had to leave like 5 questions blank because I ran out of time. My DBQ was like 95% BS. I read the DBQ prompt and my hopes of getting a 5 slowly started disappearing. :) but i'm trying to stay positive.

I ended up with a list of like 20 things.

Same! I had to limit the stuff I mentioned to like 4 things or so, and I'm really hoping that it was enough. :/

Positive note: you don't have to worry about it again until July! :)

LOVED the dbq. Where I live, we learn about that basically every year 3rd grade and up. It could not have been a better topic.

I did 3 and 4 for the FRQ...3 was pretty easy I thought, we had done a test basically with that same question (but as a DBQ). I pretty much remembered my whole essay from back then, so it worked out well. 4 I kind of BSed a little but hopefully I did really well on the other parts.

My last FRQ SUCKED.

But I liked my dbq

how did people like the DBQ. i was so clueless on outside info. and the 3rd essay, i had trouble writing enough

The test was definitely easier than what I expected. There were a few on the mc that I was iffy about but the essays were definitely a lot easier than I had anticipated. Hoping for a 5 come July but definitely feel like I at least got a 4.

I didn't have trouble writing enough... I've gotten very good at BSing things.

We'll find out if BS works on the collegeboard...

I'm with alwayshungry. The DBQ was a gift from God (sorry, the whole God thing is still in my head) because my teacher kept talking about how the topic related to modern-day life, and kept repeating the same quotes from the period over and over again. So it was perfect.

The third question, the FRQ, was also a gift from God. I also had to write that SAME EXACT ESSAY for my midterm. The only problem is that it's really hard to be analytical with it, so I ended up being very descriptive regardless of the fact that I had all the right facts.

And for the next FRQ I chose number four because it also seemed kind of easy. I analyzed it very well I think, and although I didn't know like the name of a few organizations I was name-dropping and really showing a cause-and-effect relationship. It was awesome.

The MC was very difficult, much more than the released exams. I was unsure about at least 15 questions, and that is usually way too much for me.

Yeah, hopefully I get AP scholar with distinction. That's one of my goals with all my AP exams, but it kind of just depends on this exam. Hopefully I get good news in July!

Did you use any prep books? I have a friend who says she read the crash course book on APUSH last night and it "practically wrote the essay" for her.

Crash course would have been amazing on the essays, had I actually retained any information. :(

I found the DBQ to be impossible to get outside information on. I only had like 5 outside facts in the whole essay, two of which were outside of the time restraints. I did use 8 documents though. Hopefully that'll get me a 4. Not too sure though.

I only used 1, maybe 2 (though that would be pushing it) outside facts... Damn. There goes my "OMG I DID SO WELL"...

The DBQ was right up my alley. We actually did a unit in English where we read a book (the one that was in MC #1) and a play about the subject.

How much can using few outside facts hurt your score?

I feel like I did just fine on the MC! However, the DBQ is what killed me. I choose FRQ topics 3 and 5. We just did the 50s to the 80s in my class, so 5 was really easy for me.
I'm relieved. Now.. I just have to wait until Wednesday for AP Lang :(.

Sciencefrenchie, My teacher always told us to use about 10 outside facts for a high score, but she may be wrong because this is her first year teaching it. I'm not too familiar with the grading rubrics they use, but maybe if you analyzed your documents nicely, you can still do good overall and get a 5.

Agh I'm losing confidence in this as we speak... I need to get off this forum...

sd6, you're so lucky you read that book. I was familiar with the title and author of that book, but could not, for the life of me, remember the answer to that question.
