Kansa-Nebraska Act?

Kansa-Nebraska Act?

first immigration restriction could be adams’ alien and sedition act

Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed to allow the building of a RR much to the delight of Stephen Douglas

Who was Robert La Folette?

^is george wallace really important?
Anyways, cold war U.S. policies:
Begins with the end of WWII. Truman and the british PM (not churchil, some other guy after churchil) met secretly to decide on what to do about Stalin. Truman drops the A-bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end the war in Japan, prevent the USSR from taking too much action on Japan, lest they ask for war spoils, and also to send a clear message to the USSR that the U.S. has a-bombs.

Post WWII era –> Marshall plan and Truman doctrine. Basically contain communism to the countries that are already influenced by the USSR by the power of $$$. This plan worked on Turkey and Greece and most of Western, mid-Europe, but failed in China (the Communists beat the american-financed Kuomindang).
The first time the cold war became hot was during the Korean war, which went to the brink of General MacArthur dropping the A-bomb, which Truman thought was going too far and thus fired MacArthur

After Truman, comes Eisenhower, with his Eisenhower doctrine, which is pretty much the same as the Truman doctrine only that Eisenhower’s version is concentrated in other American countries (such as Latin America, etc).

The 2nd time cold war becomes hot is in Vietnam, which started with off at the Gulf of Tonkin, when the vietcong bombed an American ship. War started officially with L.B.Johnson, ended with Nixon (negotiations with China, etc).

Reagan was a hardcore Coldwar fighter. I’m not too sure about his policies (didnt really study up to Reagan)

The Soviets began opening up with Gorbachev (not sure if I spelt that right), when his policies were centered around perestroika and glasnot. Berlin wall falls at 1989 (right?) and USSR is officially dead by 1991.

-george wallace ran as a progressive in the election with nixon and lost (he was also a racist, i believe)

-john brown- violence and extremism. he was radical and his harper ferry raid was unsuccessful because he was unable to ignite afr amer into rioting and thus he was arrested & killed

-truman doctrine- against the spread of communism (aka containment)
-marshall plan- US aid(lots of money) for europe against economical collapse after WWII. really helpful.

which measure of New Deal was ruled out by congress and why?

Follete was a progreessive who ran for president (is there anything else we need to know about him?)

Q: What did Shays Rebellion show about the government?

Wallace was a question on the course audit practice exam

could someone make a compilation of important court cases? I will start working on it, but I think we should compile a list of imp. cases, which are pretty imporant at MCs and very imporant for FRQ/DBQs

i don’t know i was asking because i truly don’t know if he’s (robert la folette) important or not I just see him in my notes.

Shays rebellion demonstrated that the articles of confederation had to be revised, since the federal and state gov’ts didnt have any standing military, or any other way to interfere with state issues

shays revealed the articles needed revision b/c they blew

compare ford and carter’s admins

^he made some treaty or law…wow i’m definitely fiving this test, haha not.

okay question: what is antimonianism? who practiced it?

Folette’s important in that he started the “initiative, referendum, and recall” - local progressive reforms.

Antimomnianism is the beleif that people are predestined to heaven and they dont have to be good to go there. Anne Hutchinson practced it.

It is VERY important to realize that that is NOT why she was kicked out of Mass.- this was a choice on an old AP and that was wrong!

Speaking of this…

Q: Why was Hutchinson kicked out of Mass.?

Robert la folette was a big on progressive movements

Ford was quite a failure in terms of what happened in his administration i think? Saigon fell to north vietnam, Cambodia fell to Khmer Rouge. HE also lost popularity because he pardoned nixon.
He introduced Whip Inflation Now buttons which was suppose to bring optomism but it was very ineffective.

Carter was big on human rights, famous for Camp David Accords between egypt and israel

um…b/c they convicted her of heresy? I think I read about it somewhere…

Was she kicked out because she spoke against their views and because she was a woman? I have no idea

Hutchinson was banished because she claimed to have a direct revelation from God and also because she held private prayer meetings in her home.

Can someone describe the Carter and Reagan administrations?

Antinomianism was the belief that Anne Hutchinson put forth and is why she got kicked out of Mass Bay Colony for. I believe it had to do with the belief of being destined to heaven or hell.

What is considered to be the first “modern election”?
What did the US gain from Jay’s treaty?
What was Gunboat diplomacy? Example?
