hi
im going to apply to universities this fall and I’m scared that I wouldnt be accepted in architecture major of the uni that I want. I’m interested in both UCB and UCLA. but i’m not sure what GPA could satisfy the admission to both of the schools. I’m an international student and my GPA is 3.86. I also worked as a tutor in school and joined some volunteer activities. also i’m an officer of a volunteer clubs. is it enough for me to qualify for the admission to the uni? and do you have any other advices that I could take to enter to the uni?
thank you so much!!
Is your GPA unweighted or weighted? Test scores? and can you list your EC’s. No way of chancing you without all this important information.
Here are the UC requirements for International applicants:
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/international/applying-for-admission/index.html
UC’s review your application based on GPA/Test Scores/HS course rigor/Essays and EC’s.
Here is average GPA/Test score data from last year for admitted UC’s applicants for UCLA/UCB:
CAMPUS/ AVG UC GPA/ AVG ACT/AVG SAT TOTAL/ AVG SAT M+CR
UCB: 4.19 / 31 / 2094 /1396
UCLA: 4.18/ 31/2064/ 1377
To be a competitive applicant, you want to be at or above the average. The more competitive the major, the higher the stats.
I’m not sure what you mean about the test scores and GPA unweighted or weighted and the GPA I wrote above is the cumulative result up to this point. My ECs are Leo club and Unicef club. The leo club is the club in which I become the officer.
and I learn that max GPA is 4.0? How could the average GPA be above 4.00? 0.o
The UC’s have a unique way to calculate GPA. As an International, I would go by the unweighted GPA meaning your regular GPA without weighted classes such as IB/AP/Honors. The UC GPA calculation gives you 8 extra honors points for taking AP/IB/Honors approved classes which will make the GPA above the 4.0 mark. I linked the UC GPA calculator if you want to try and calculate your UC GPA in my above post ^^. You need to take the SAT or ACT test scores to apply to the UC’s. I gave you the UC requirements for International applicant link so make sure you meet these requirements. GPA alone will not get you into these schools. You also need to meet the a-g course requirements and English proficiency.
For UCLA, you want to have a unweighted GPA of 3.85 or higher. Here is another link that shows the statistics for in-coming Freshman from last year. http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_fr/Frosh_Prof14.htm
Thank you for your help though! I’m glad for your advices!
Make sure you can pay full fees. There is no financial aid for nonresidential.
The top architecture school in the country right now is Cal Poly SLO. Cost is less than a UC. Did you check it out?
Of California publics, CPSLO and CPP have (5-year) NAAB-accredited BArch programs.
Other schools may have BA/BS in architecture degrees which may allow completing an MArch in less time than if you have a BA/BS with an unrelated major.
UCB and UCLA have NAAB-accredited MArch programs, but not NAAB-accredited BArch programs.
