architecture schools

i would like to know which architecture schools i can get into and which schools are in reach
My GPS is 3.55 unweighted 3.75 weighted
My SAT is 540 Critical Reading/ 680 Math/ 520 Writing
im co-president of a club Global Affairs. im in math honor society. im pretty sure im in national art honor society. ive done club volleyball for 3 years and and volleyball with the high school for 4 years.

How many of the schools with architecture programs require portfolios and if they do how much weight do they put into them

I’m a California resident. I could go anywhere in the country I wanted to granted I get in and that they give sufficient financial aid. Our family is strapped for money because i have 3 brothers in college already and unless i were to receive a good amount of financial aid id have to go to a college that is cheap. I would prefer a medium sized school. Doesnt really matter if its private or public.

It’s difficult to say which colleges are reaches, which matches, and which safeties for architecture because most of them put heavy emphasis on portfolios. With that said, I’d think you might have a decent chance at Syracuse, U. of Oregon, and/or Cal Poly.

Alright thanks, so I can get an idea of how much emphasis schools put on portfolios, if I were to apply to Cornell with a really good portfolio would I even stand a chance or are schools at Cornell’s level still completely out of reach.

Take a look at [highly ranked DAAP program at University of Cincinnati](http://www.uc.edu/News/NR.aspx?ID=9350)…[no portfolo required.](http://daap.uc.edu/admissions.html)

Plus, Cinci has a Jungle Jims nearby, that’s 200+ SAT points by itself

I’d first think why a portfolio is NOT preferred by the OP, or that’s the idea I got at least. A good portfolio opens up a lot of opportunities.

oops sorry if it sounded like i preferred no portfolio i was thinking ive been in ceramics for 4 years and im a pretty decent artist so i was thinking i could put together a pretty good portfolio thats what i wanted to portray

so far I have these schools in mind not sure which ones i could get into

Syracuse
Temple
Penn State: University Park
Ball State
University of Oregon
USC
Cal Poly SLO
UC Berkeley
ill look into U Cincinnati more
any other suggestions

OK, then, that makes things a bit easier. From what I remember from a year ago when DD did this, UOregon would be a good match, probably SLO (in state, yea!). But your biggest concern would be financial aid, not getting in because some of these places from OOS are a wee bit expensive.

I’d add some South schools just for fun, places like Auburn, Rice and the like, and even some of the usual suspects off the DI list (Illinois Institute of Technology). Pretty much go down the list A-Z, spend a zillion in Kinko’s portfolio reprints and app fees and see what sticks.

Again, if cost is an issue, consider living expenses in the picture as well. Some places have awesome amenities and the like but charge U of Kuwait like fees while others are more reasonable in price (but accommodations are, ehem, a bit more, ehem, utilitarian).

kind of curious about the portfolio could i just make one general portfolio for all the schools that require one?

I would suggest Virginia Tech-no portfolio requirement either.

A couple of comments about arch school applications:
Bear in mind that schools that do not require portfolios are looking for relatively high GPA’s and SAT/ACT scores. After all, that’s pretty much all the information those schools have to evaluate applicants.

Here’s a variety of school websites that describe what they are looking for in portfolios:
