Are 14 Credits enough of a load?

I’m going to be transferring in Fall 2008 to a top business school (I hope)

This is what I currently have lined up for Fall 2007:
Physics (Calc Based) (5 cr.)
Calc I (5 cr.)
Acct II (3 cr.)
Macroeconomics (3 cr.)

This is a total of 16 credits.

But I think that it’s too big of a Math/Numbers related load, so I was thinking of dropping Physics and taking Photography and taking Physics next semester. Photography and Physics is at the same time so I couldn’t drop another class and take Photography at the same time. Photography is 3 credits so that would take me to a total of 14 credits.

What do you guys think? I know that 15 would be the optimal load.

Your schedule is very good right now and will be fine if you sub Photo for Physics. Don’t worry yourself too much over credits. Aim for at least 14 and you’re good.

Ok thanks…

You think I should leave it as is as opposed to adding a 1 or 2 course credit (which may be an extremely easy course) ? I want to transfer eventually to Berkeley or something like that… most school look that you have 15-17 credits per semester don’t they?

What are your thoughts on that?

I don’t know how the UCs work. Somebody more experienced in that area would be better to answer that one. However, of the top schools I’ve looked at, all just expected you to be attending “full time,” which translates to 12 credits per semester at most schools. 14 shows a little more drive without overdoing it. You are under no obligation, unless from Berkeley, to take 15-17 credits per semester. In fact, in my first semester I ended up with only 10 credits (having dropped one class) and was still admitted to top schools. Don’t fret and focus on getting A’s in all of those classes rather than adding more on. Weak classes aren’t impressive, even if they are filler.

as far as I know the UC’s don’t require you to have a minimum unit load per quarter.

here’s a link to the minimum requirements for junior transfers:

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/transfer/tr_adm_reqs.html

I’m almost 100% sure that UC’s only look to see that you’re going to have your required coursework done by the time you transfer.

I had a similar concern in the spring–I ended up dropping a majority of my classes due to personal circumstances. Come to think about it my unit load has been pretty erratic so far…22 units 1st quarter, 14 units second quarter, 9 units 3rd quarter, and this fall coming up I’m going to be in 18.5 units.

I’ve also been told that theres a section on the UC app where you can explain why you’ve taken fewer or more classes in a given quarter. I’m not sure if that’s true, but thats what I was told the last time I raised this issue.
