I am Michigan Student. I will have about 8 or 9 Aps by the end of my senior year. I come from a school that offers tons of these.
ACT:35
SAT:1520
How am I looking so far?
It’s usually enough, but what are the APs? The subjects are more important than the number
it should be enough, but hope not 5 of them are taken in senior year. that means you actually took 3 or 4.
Course rigor is what is important, not AP classes. They are often related, but is not always true. For example, you school may offer more rigorous classes in English than the AP classes.
In general, that is plenty. Especially if those APs are in core subjects, and you do well overall in those courses and on the AP exams. Schools often are particularly interested in English, math, and science, although that may depend on what specific school/major you are applying to.
r u serious?
Let’s put it this way. Our local public school only offers 3 AP courses. At least one or two students get admitted to Cornell and NYU every year. Every once in a while a doctor’s son or daughter gets into Michigan. This is not a well-to-do community so not too many go to OOS public universities.
In another post you say you are in 9th grade with a 3.2 GPA. I’m confused. Are those actual standardized test scores you got in 9th grade or just scores you would like to get? If you don’t give the full story it is a waste of the respondent’s (who are volunteers) time and it gives you no really useful information. If you aspire to top colleges your focus now should be in working hard and improving your GPA.
There is much more to getting into top schools than taking AP classes. But to answer your question the person to speak with is your HS guidance counselor. The top schools (ex. Cornell) will want to see the guidance counselor check the box saying you have taken the most rigorous curriculum available at your HS. So ask him/her if your planned schedule is sufficient for him/her to check that box. Your overall level of course rigor will be dependent on: 1) what is offered at your HS and 2) what the APs you do take – for example AP Psych is not regarded as having the same rigor as APUSH or European History; AP Environ does not have the same level of rigor as APBio, Chem or Physics, AP stat does not have the same level of rigor as AP Calc AB or BC. So it is not just the number of APs, it is also what you take relative to what is offered in your HS and which APs you take that will matter.
IF you are finishing your freshman year I’d strongly recommend that you get off of CC until junior year. Your time would be way better spent: 1) doing as well as you can in school 2) getting involved in ECs in your school and/or community 3) enjoying time with your friends and family.
