Are admissions into competitive departments at UW rolling admissions?

Anyone have any idea? Does it vary between departments?

Thanks.

I’m fairly certain they are not rolling admissions.
At least in the engineering departments there are application due dates either at the end of the year or the end of the quarter, depending on the department. Notifications are sent out together after the due date and all the applications have been reviewed

Adding on to mlidge:
Engineering - For each application due date, it’s not rolling.

However, the earlier you finish prereqs, the earlier you can apply. If you get in, you now are part of that department and essentially, you’ve ‘enrolled earlier than other people.’ I guess if you think of it that way, it’s ‘rolling.’ Competitive early birds get a slot. Even if your grades are very strong and you have a good personal statement, if you apply when there’s only 2 or 3 spots left in the major, you might not get accepted… because earlier applicants already took the spots.

Especially with competitive majors, there are only a certain number of spots per graduating year because of funding. For example, CSE has a cap of 160 graduating students every year.

They won’t wait for everyone to turn into juniors at 90 credits to evaluate applicants into majors.
