Are all foothill rooms in suites?

On the app, there’s only a choice for “Foothill double room in suite” and no choice for just “Foothill double”

Are all rooms in foothill in suites?

From what I know, yes.

Yes, they’re all suites.

Thanks, and one more question. For the units, do most people go for “Unit 1 double”, “Unit 1 double in substance-free environment” or “Unit 1 double in mini-suite” ?

I’m going to be doing engineering

Most try for unit 1 double as first choice (if you’re an incoming freshman) unless you are either recovering or want to avoid, then substance-free is the better choice. Usually second choice is unit 1 double mini-suite, but continuing students get first crack at those, so you’ll be lower on the list to get those. They’re supposedly quieter, but still in the units, so still kind of social.

What exactly is the difference between the Regular and Substance-Free?

Are all substances allowed in the Regular Unit 1?

Yes, that’s why they’re 16k.

The Substance-Free description is just as helpful as a No Smoking sign. :/

So most people select the Regular then? And not the Substance-free dorms (Freeborn I believe it’s called)?

It really doesn’t matter. “Substances” aren’t allowed at the dorms in the first place… so Substance-Free is kind of redundant, don’t you think?

if you’re engineering, Unit 4 (Foothill, Bowles, Stern) is your best bet. Foothill is probably your best bet at getting a double. Due to CKC construction many of the doubles in the units are facing triple-dom. I dunno if you are a guy or a gal, but Bowles gets you the most square-feet per dollar. Most common rooms in Bowles’ quads are significantly bigger that doubles.

A Bowles quad consists of three rooms: two small bedrooms and a large common room

I’m a guy and honestly don’t like the idea of a single-sex dorm.

How’s this? Foothill Dub, Foothill Triple, Unit1 Dub (Regular), Unit3 Dub (Regular), any.

I heard Unit 3 can get chaotic at times though, and although I don’t mind occasional parties and hyperness, I know I’ll need a fairly quiet environment to study. For my fourth preference, should I go for a Unit3 Dub or a Unit1 Triple?

What you put in your second sentence is the best plan. Triple makes it even more difficult to study except in Foothill. But there’s places in all the dorms other than the room itself where you can have a fairly quiet environment.

If you’re first-year engineering, having a Unit 4 dorm isn’t that much of an advantage. The majority of your year is spent fulfilling GEs.

The reason its called “substance-free” is because the people in freeborn agree not to use drugs outside the dorm which basically comes down to not drinking.

Castel, engineering students have different GEs and set curricula to follow.

Last year, I didn’t apply for Bowles, but got stuck here anyways. Its not bad at all. Very social, very loud, yet still very close to campus like Foothill. Only cons are that the building is old and that it is all male, but all female Stern is right next door.

I know this may sound stupid but I just want to double check since the site doesn’t have numbers 1-5 - the housing preference dropdowns go from top choice to worst choice from top to bottom correct?

ie. I should choose:

Foothill Double (my top choice)
Foothill Triple
Unit 1 Double
Unit 3 Double
Any

and NOT

Any
Unit 3 Double
Unit 1 Double
Foothill Triple
Foothill Double

Sure hope so

Yes, the first way you did it.
