I know that admissions officers hate reading about Harry Potter. But what if it’s only referenced briefly in an essay? My Common App essay is the story of my personal development in marching band, told through the eyes of my dot book (a dot book is a book of counts, diagrams, coordinates, and music used as a tool on the marching field). At the very beginning of the essay, I reference the idea that my dot book is like a Horcrux, in that it represents a piece of myself, and then I refer back to that idea at the end to wrap it up. Would that annoy an admissions officer? Thanks in advance for the help! :)

lol, adcoms hate reading about HP? that’s a shame, since i mentioned it in my supplement answers…

Can’t you say the same thing and skip the Horcrux reference?

Horcruxes are evil…You have to kill someone in order to fragment your soul enough to get it inside the object. I don’t think you want an admissions officer thinking you’re evil.

I think siliconvalleymom has it right.
