I was wondering if anyone has a link or anyone knows if any of the classes are similar on the igetc page. I have 66 units and I believe my Critical Thinking and Psych class is the same as my Critical Thinking and composition class. Which brings me down to 63. I finished IGETC but I dont want my classes to overlap. Im mostly worried about my history class and art class overlapping.
These are the general classes I’m worried about
U.S. History to 1877
History of American Art
Art: West: prehistoric - Gothic
Crit thinking/psych
Crit Thinking/composition
Intro to Physical Anthropology
Intro to Humanities
intro to sociology
Any of these duplicate besides crit. thinking?
I’m confused about what you’re worried about? What do you mean by overlap?
Nothing overlaps credit-wise.
Re the two critical thinking, one is psych and one is english composition
@boxandwhiskers i mean there have been cases where a UC only gave unit credit for one of the classes out of the two because both classes were considered similar.
What @lindyk8 said but, yes and no. They don’t overlap credit-wise for GPA, but some schools have certain rules about taking certain classes to satisfy different sections in the IGETC. For instance, at my school I can’t take Human 30A and Human 46 when fulfilling the Arts & Humanities requirement for IGETC (in my case i’m taking 2 humanities and an art, so I wouldn’t be able to take Human 30a and 46 - only one of those would count if I did). They denoted some classes on the list with asterisks, noting which classes could not be taken together in a situation like that.
I’m sure your school would do the same so you would know which ones not to take or watch out for.
In terms of UC’s giving credit for one of the two, I would imagine they would also let you know, and probably on Assist. Assist usually lists certain rules and regulations about what satisfies for your major when it comes to transferring.
