Are any schools good to visit in the summer?

I know that generally one shouldn't visit schools during the summer, but would it be a good idea to visit ones that are on the quarter system so that some classes will be in session? I'm thinking of going to see Dartmouth or UChicago. Does anyone know of other good schools that are in session during August? (I go back to school after labor day)

In general, I tend to recommend kids visit the schools once they're accepted and have financial aid packages to compare. I say this mostly because the time commitment to travel to a school is typically much greater than the time commitment to write an essay or two. Plus, if you don't get in, you just wasted a day or two of your life for essentially nothing. Anywho, here's a list of schools on the quarter system...

We had to do all our visiting in the summer (however, compared to some on CC, we didn't visit many). We were able to get a reasonable feel of the campus from these visits. We did go back to some on accepted students days before she had to make her decision.

Thanks for the help, guys!

Do you think it is necessary to visit all colleges that a student might be applying to? My daughter is tired of visiting and would rather apply and visit later if accepted. Has anyone's child been accepted to selective schools without first visiting the school? SAT's are around 2200; GPA 4.0 - Northeast
